When you stay at a hotel in Athens, the 'holy grail' of views is of course, the Acropolis. However, an equally impressive monument stands just outside of the centre and a short distance from the Parthenon. Not only is it larger and its pillars seem to stretch on and on into the sky, but it's set in pleasant grounds too; we're talking about the Temple of Zeus. Choosing the Royal Olympic hotel as your home while in Athens will not only mean you're moments from the Acropolis and all its surrounding museums, but as it's directly opposite the Temple of Zeus, you have the best of both worlds.

The elegant Royal Olympic lobby is swathed in gold and marble, with statues and a wide open space to loose yourself in if you prefer some peace and quiet. With a view of the parkland surrounding the Temple from its huge windows, the Library is reached by ascending some small steps, where the high-backed chairs and relaxing colour scheme make it easy to forget you're still in the lobby of a busy hotel. With 300 rooms, this ample space is needed to swallow any crowds which may gather.
5 star hotels in Athens insider look from the Greek-advisor.com
The rooms are split into five different categories. The Executive starts us off and although it's pleasantly appointed, it is rather small, so we would suggest looking at the Deluxe as your starting category. All recently renovated, the Deluxe rooms are exercises in the art of colour co-ordination and are an informed choice. Further up the scale are the Junior Suites and Suites, considerably larger and in the case of the Suites, multi-room living experiences, where luxurious bed linens and soft furnishings meet with traditional Athenian style. However, our recommendation at the Royal Olympic hotel is to choose one of the Athenian Panorama rooms. Here, the giant almost floor-to-ceiling windows serve up an unparalleled view of the Temple of Zues, Lycabettus Hill and much of the rest of Athens and thanks to the placement of the bed this can be the last thing you see at night and the first thing to see in the morning. Little touches such as the LCD TV panel being mounted inside ornate picture frames and the electrically operating blinds being controlled from your bed make these rooms something very special indeed.

Continuing this trend for the unusual, the Royal Olympic's restaurant is like little else you'll see in a luxury hotel. Entered through the massive imposing double doors takes you into a different world, where arched windows, dark – almost black - woods and exposed rafters on the ceiling leave you with the impression you're about to eat in an ancient castle chapel. This is not the only choice for eating at the hotel either, the lounge bar and pool bar also make excellent destinations if all you require is a drink and a snack. After your exquisite meal has taken its toll, perhaps the Royal Olympic's well-specified gym will be your next call, or if relaxation is more your style, the Spa and Wellness centre.

The Royal Olympic hotel in Athens is also an excellent choice for your business meeting or conference and the choice of halls is impressive. But it's the view of the Temple of Zeus, especially from the Athenian Panorama rooms, which makes the Royal Olympic hotel one of our most highly recommended hotels in Athens.
