When you enter certain hotels, you often instantly know whether you're going to like it or not. This sixth sense depends on many things processed in those first few seconds, for example the ambience of the atrium, smiling staff behind reception and the ease of check-in. But one of the most important, yet probably the most intangible, is the honesty of the hotel. We're not talking about financial matters here, but the sense of whether any ostentatious decor is covering up for inadequacies or whether the hotel owners care about you as an individual; so many aspects you'd find impossible to pinpoint, yet it's an instinct which serves you well and one that hotels would dearly love to exude.
Luxury Athens hotels unbiased reviews from the Greek-advisor.com
Sitting in the Athens Gate's modestly, but stylishly furnished reception before you head out into the city for a days exploration will see new guests enter, each attended to quickly, efficiently and professionally while the bellboy deals with any luggage seems to always have the same result; smiling, satisfied faces all round. If the Athens Gate hotel could bottle their honesty and professionalism, they would make a fortune. This is a four-star hotel which goes beyond this limiting guideline, as the differences between this and a five-star property lie squarely in its lack of pretension. With 99 rooms, securing one for yourself should be done early and will most likely not be a decision you regret.
5 star hotels in Athens insider look from the Greek-advisor.com
Entirely renovated in 2007, the Athens Gate hotel still has that brand new feel. There are four room types to choose from, the Standard, Superior, Executive and a Junior Suite, and all but the suite are available as a twin or double layout. The light, summery colours used in the rooms contrast well with the darker, modern furniture and although the rooms are not huge, there is still plenty of room for two adults. The main difference between the room types lies in what you can see from your window. In a Standard, the rooms overlook the rear of the hotel, but a Superior has a view of the Temple of Zeus, located just across the road., or the Acropolis from your balcony Staying in an Executive room nets you a larger balcony with better views of these wonderful landmarks. Finally, the larger Junior Suite gives you the best of both worlds, as it has a view of each!

This is repeated at the roof garden located on the seventh floor, as the Athens Gate's excellent central location allows uninterrupted views of the Temple and the Parthenon, which are best enjoyed when taken in over a meal in the evening. Downstairs in reception you can enjoy a quiet coffee in the cafe/bar, which is hidden far enough away from reception to avoid any hustle and bustle. Although you won't find a spa or gym at the Athens Gate hotel, you are within walking distance of the aforementioned Temple of Zeus and Acropolis, plus an Athens metro station and Syntagma Square for the Parliament and shopping district.
